Twas the Night Before Marathon Training…

In 16 short weeks, I’ll be running Grandma’s Marathon. I have a few races in between now and Grandma’s, but Grandma’s will be the big event for me – I’m training for my first marathon under 3:30. marathon training

This weekend I was fitted again for sneakers. I previously ran in Brooks Trance during Goofy and Goofy trance, and they were nice shoes – but nothing special to me.

I packed lightly for Goofy

This training and race I’ll be trying out Asics GT-2000. These shoes were really comfortable, lighter than my Brooks and most importantly: super cute.

Asics

I’m hoping that these shoes run a bit small because I was feeling like big foot when I heard I was fitted into a 10 1/2 shoe..I’m normally a 9 1/2-10ish. I’m going to putting the new kick to the test today with my trainer, so we’ll see how they do!

With this training, I hope will

  • Complete all my runs and core workouts – my plan has me running 5-6 days a week. For the first few weeks, this will be difficult for me because it’s still really dark before and after work, so it’ll be treadmill based. According to the weatherman we’ll be adding 3 hours of daylight in the next month, so I’ll be able to get back outside soon enough!
  • Learn the Right Fueling for Me – I have a variety of gels and chews from my Runner Box I’ve been saving for my distance runs. I’ll be playing around with when to take and how much to take to properly stay fueled.
  • Get back into speed work – I haven’t done speed work since high school 60 years ago, so this will be pretty much brand new to me.  My coach has me running a few different speed workouts in a few weeks, and I’m able to get back into it.

I’ve missed having a race to train for, so I’m excited to get out there and get back into it!

QOTD: Are you training for anything?

  1. Ha ha…when I read that you were in high school 60 years ago I thought I clicked on the wrong blog. ;-) See it is funny, but some of us are a bit too close to 60 years out of high school…well 30.

Good luck with your training. I have always tried to hit all my workouts, but life tends to get in the way. I’ll be interested to follow your training. I don’t have a treadmill, so that might help.

I am training for Boston right now as well as the Colorado Marathon in May. Busy, busy.

  3. Those purple shoes are awesome! I run in Asics and I wear a size 9 in street shoes but a 10 in their sneakers. I hope you love them!

  5. I am training to give birth. Haha. But in reality, I am STRUGGLING with the fact that I do not have a big race on my calendar this spring. I hate it. But I need to do what’s best for the baby!

  7. My next road race (i.e. time goal) is the Oakland half at the end of March, so that’s my current training goal. I’m ready to run a road half again, I’ve been taking it easier and doing trail half marathons during winter (aka, ski season!)

  8. The thought of a 3:30 marathon is amazing! You’re going to rock the marathon. I’m training for my first 50 miler in the fall with many training races in between now and then.
