Savor Minnesota

I’ve been having issues with my sportswatch all week but yesterday I was able to recalibrate and ran my 1,000th mile!

After running, I met up with some friends to go to Savor Minnesota. When I first moved to Minnesota, I never thought of the Midwest as a place for wineries.

I was quite wrong.

Savor Minnesota is an annual local food, wine and beer show..with LOTS of vendors. I was not expecting that many booths! At the door you’re given a wineglass, a bag and a brochure with information on each booth.

On-line the event was scheduled to start at 12 but when we arrived we were told it started at 1. We were able to get into the expo area and could sample the food vendors, but couldn’t sample the drinks until 1.

We sampled a variety of cheese curd flavors. Before this, my only experience with cheese curds had been fried cheese curds (like a mozzarella stick). At the expo they had taco seasoned, bacon seasoned, bbq seasoned…pretty much everything you could imagine.

My favorite was the garlic and dill. Yum.

After the other booths opened, we walked around and tried the different wines and beers. It really amazed me the variety of wines! One winery had a lot of wines made from rhubarb (delicious) to another one having a blueberry-apple desert wine.

I wanted to buy a bottle of the Apple Blueberry, but they had just sold out. Fortunately, they were advertising 5 and 10K races (Awake the Grapes) this Memorial Day so I registered for that and plan on picking up a bottle then.

Win-Win situation.

After some wine tasting we were hungry so went back to the food area and sampled salsas. We tried Snappy Dog salsa and fell in love with their fruit salsa.

I made sure to stock up on it for the summer.

Overall the event was really fun and well organized. I was nervous that the event would be really crowded, but this wasn’t the case at all. It was a really fun event and I can’t wait to go back next year!
