Week one of marathon training proved to be frustrating, to say the least. It’s been a while since I’ve done a long run on the treadmill…and I completely forgot that my gym has the treadmill’s set to automatically turn off after an hour.
At mile 6.75, the treadmill shut off. I turned the treadmill back on, but my head just wasn’t getting back in it. I ended up running 8.5 of the 11 miles. This experience really re-emphasized the fact that running is as much mental as it is physical. Physically, I was able to complete the miles…it was completely my mind.
Thankfully, my coach set up week one to ease me back into running and getting used to this new training plan. I’ll be repeating the same workouts again this week and will complete the 11 miler next week. This time, I’ll be ready for the hour turn off.
After the run, I went to the Mall of America for an Oscars Party! The Oscars Party was held at the Theatres at Mall of America, inside their VIP Theatre (fancy way of saying larger seats with tables and you can have alcohol served to you)
The night started with a really nice cocktail hour with a ton of appetizers and deserts. I was pretty full from dinner, but the mint chocolate cupcake was calling my name. Absolutely delicious!
Before the Oscars began, we were handed a sheet to fill out to pick who we thought would win. I clearly need to see more movies – half of them I hadn’t even heard of. Oops!
During the commercials, the hosts of the night played trivia and had a bunch of prizes to giveaway – ranging from movies to gift certificates to different stores in the mall. I didn’t win any trivia questions, but did get to go home with a fun gift bag!
Got to say, it was pretty creepy leaving the mall. During the day, it’s really crowded and noisy – at night…not so much.

I know how you feel in the mental department with the running. It is so hard to shut your mind off sometimes. Hang in there girl! We all have those days, and I know you are strong and can start fresh on your next run

Bravo for getting 8.5 on the treadmill. The most I ever did was 7 and it was pure torture. Such a mental game…
The MOA would be sooooo creepy after hours. Sounds like a horror movie plot for sure!

HOLY SMOKES!!!! Thank you so very very much!
Congrats on battling the treadmill: as a current Bostonian, our snowy visitor Nemo recently sent me indoors to the treadmill…I do find it much more of a mental battle than running along the Charles!
I am not a fan of long runs on the treadmill either… but congrats on kicking off marathon training!
