Reader Questions

Since starting up training for my 2nd marathon, I’ve gotten a few questions from readers. Today’s all about your questions!

Love the little capes on the socks!

How did you start running?

I actually started running cross country during high school, but stopped running competitively when I went to college. Post-college I was looking for something to get me back into shape, and I decided to start running 5Ks again. After I ran a few 5Ks, I heard about the runDisney races and was super interested – what better way to run your first half marathon than through Disney?! I originally wanted to run the Princess Half, however missed registration so registered for the Disneyland Half Marathon.

What are you currently training for?

My current goal is to run Grandma’s Marathon (Duluth, MN) this June in under 3:30

What training plan do you follow?DL-Half

I follow a custom training plan made for me by my coach Jason from Strength Running. I absolutely love it because it includes cross training (his cross training videos are super helpful) and includes my other races into my training schedule. I’ve also used Cool Running training plans in the past and have had great results.

What is your favorite distance race?

My favorite distance is a 10K – a bit longer than a 5K, but speedier than a half marathon.

What advice do you have for beginner runners?

Start out with small goals and build up. When I first started I started out with HUGE goals and just got very frustrated. I’ve since moved to smaller goals through my trainings and races (like hitting all my miles for a week or PR in a race during my training) so I stay motivated and have fun with training.

  1. Love this post some great advice especially about setting smaller goals. I’ve been guilty in the past of trying to build distance too fast and getting annoyed when I don’t make it or worse cause an injury.

  4. Yay :) ! 10K is my favorite too, for all the reasons you mentioned and because it doesn’t leave me feeling wiped for an entire weekend!

  5. Holy crud. My marathon goal is MCM in 4:30 so to me 3:30 sound crazy, but awesome. You will do it too, you’re so speedy and determined
