It’s finally beginning to feel like spring! Yesterday I was able to get outside for a bit after work and (finally) go for a run – I’ve missed running outside so much! One of my favorite things about my new house is that I’m right on a park with lots of running trails.
Minneapolis Spring Races
If you’re like me, you’re dying to get back out running. This winter has been absolutely brutal and while you can still run indoors on a treadmill..it’s just not the same. Here are a few local races to start off your running season
Get in Gear 5K/10K/Half Marathon – April 26, Minneapolis
This was one of my first races in Minneapolis so holds a special place in my heart! I originally signed up for this race when I had just registered for my first half marathon and needed a 10K time for my corral placement. This is actually the largest 10K in Minnesota – but yet doesn’t feel overcrowded. The course itself is relatively flat and is a perfect first 10K.
Hot Chocolate 5K/15K – April 19, Minneapolis
This is a new race for Minneapolis and is already promising to be a great addition – who doesn’t want to run for chocolate?! While the full race course hasn’t been released yet, the race will start and finish at one of my favorite places to run – the Stone Arch Bridge. Race day is April 19th and if you register with the code MSPMUG you’ll get a special gift with registration!
Zumbro 100 Mile, 50 Mile and 17 Mile Trail Run April 11-12 Theilman
This race was a tough one for me last year – I had registered for the 17 mile run last year as a training run and was completely unprepared for all the snow and ice and ended up with a DNF after 6 miles. Despite that, I was really impressed with the course, the support and the whole organization. This was hands down one of the most supportive races I’ve participated in.
Autism 5K – May 17, Lake Calhoun
I ran this race last year as part of the Explore Minnesota challenge and had a blast. The course brings you all around Lake Calhoun and has an overall laid back atmosphere… and best of all it’s for a great cause!
