Just Keep Running

Classes this term are seriously kicking my butt.I don’t think the workload is much more than any other term, but the courses just aren’t my type…gotta love required courses. My courses next term are starting to be in my concentration so I’m excited for them..just gotta make it through these next few weeks!

Last night was my gym’s run club. It was chilly and dark again, so we took to running the treadmills for a hilly 5K.

A few of my friends had training runs (training for a half marathon in a few weeks), so continued on to do 6 miles. I really like that the treadmills at my gym have a variety of “personal training modes” where you can enter in race distance (I think only 5K and 10K), enter in intensity, and the treadmill will create a flat or hilly course and automatically adjust for you. This really helped me keep distracted and the 5K actually went by pretty fast!

QOTD: What are your favorite treadmill workouts?

  1. the only workout I can do on a treadmill is an interval workout! I get bored if i’m not always moving!

  2. I only did 5… don’t tell Josh!

  3. Landed on your blog from your link on SR’s blog. My favorite TM workout is one where I continually increase the speed. If it’s going to be at least 60 minutes, I increase every mile. If it’s less than that, I increase every few minutes (like every 2 or every 5 depending on the length of the run). It forces me to stay engaged and focused on what I’m doing, which always makes every run better–you actually enjoy the runs!

A couple weeks ago I spent 40 minutes watching the menu screen of a DVD because I was into my run and didn’t want to get off the TM to either start or quit the DVD. Priorities!

  4. I like to do speed work or hill repeats on the treadmill. For hills, I usually pick one of the treadmill programs and just go with it. For speed work I’ll do mile repeats with half mile recovery or progression type runs.

  5. I’ve never used a set course like that, but it would be kind of nice to know the terrain was not in my control. Nice job!

  6. I love the treadmills at the YMCA that have all the bells and whistles.

  7. Two favorite workouts. That one time I ran 52.4 miles on a treadmill at once time, and the HIIT workout I did a couple weeks ago. The ultra made every subsequent TM run seem short, and intervals make TM runs more interesting :)
