Wow, January has felt like it’s flown by! It’s been really hard to get used to not having an event to really train for currently. I’m beginning to work with a running coach, but the main goal for me will be to run Grandma’s marathon in June in under 3:35. The races before the marathon will be treated as training races.
What does this all mean? Well, my running plan doesn’t start until 16 weeks before the race so I don’t have a formal running plan until March. This is hard for me because I really need structure when I go to the gym, and told what to run and how far to run.
Yesterday, I ran a slow 2 mile warmup and really tried to focus on my running form. Afterwards, I did a circuit of ab work my trainer and I often have done. It was a good workout, but it’s weird to only be doing warmup runs now on my own and not focusing on distances. Before I’d use my trainer sessions as cross training, and distance runs on my own. I’ll get used to it eventually, it’s just weird now!
This week I have similar plans to mostly do cross training, with a few mile warmup runs before. I have been eyeing a few classes at my new gym I’ve wanted to try, so I might try those out!
QOTD: What are you favorite cross training workouts?

I love fun and never boring cross training workouts. I like the crossfit style workouts – but can’t afford a membership to their ‘box’. What works for me is using the Nike Training Club app on my phone. It gives you a variety of workouts and focus areas. Great for running, strength training and cross training

I second the Nike Training Club app recommendation. I’ve only used it once so far, but I love that I have so many workout ideas at my fingertips. For classes, I like spin and yoga.
I am the same way. I need structure in my workouts. Most of my workouts consist of rowing but I love being able to get out and run (running is so much more fun).

I have the same problem when I’m not following a training plan! I get lost in the world of options. There’s so much to choose from that it becomes overwhelming. One that is mentioned to me sometimes is to try something from Nike Training Club. It’s seems to be a popular app.

3:30 HOLYCRAP. Can you can me on your back? Instant Abby PR. I am hoping for a 4:30 at my April marathon, but that would be a huge PR as my only one to date is 5:14 on a flat course and that would mean dropping 45 minutes on a super hill course so we shall see.

I know what you mean about that in between time when your training isn’t scheduled. I’m there right now, too.
Best of luck in your training! My favorite cross training is spin and/or weights circuits. I love some of Jillian’s dvds for at home workouts.
