Hello from Disneyland! I’m running the inaugural Disneyland 10K this morning and can’t wait to share the recap with you. In the meantime, here’s my final blog post for my social media course (see older posts here).
Social media is always changing – between policies, layouts and even which social media platforms are being used. In order for a company to be successful on social media, they need to keep up with current trends and research emerging trends, in addition to posting relevant, timely content.
To be successful on social media a company needs to invest in both actively posting on their channels as well as researching current and emerging trends and platforms. In my opinion, the research is almost as important as publishing content and maintaing accounts because it is the future of social media. Social media platforms are added and changed frequently – the more on top of changes a company is the more they can benefit. Social media can change so frequently due to a mix of both technology – advances in technology or new discoveries – as well as personal. While one social platform may be popular today, another may be more popular tomorrow due to different features or layouts that may appeal to users more than the previous popular platform.
In order to stay on top of social media trends and platforms, a company should invest time into their social media strategy. This can be done by having a dedicated social media expert or for larger companies (or those with a large social media presence) this could be a team. The social media expert or team should be partially responsible for providing content for all active platforms, as well as researching social media – this can be done by reading different technology or social media blogs (like Mashable), personal experience or reading social media discussion boards.
QOTD: How do you stay up to date with social media?
