It’s hard to believe it’s been a little over a week since Disneyland! The Disneyland Half Marathon is one of my favorite races (and I think will always be) as it was my first half marathon. Last year was the first year I ran the race (and first trip to Disneyland), but didn’t get to spend too much time in the parks. This year I decided to extend my trip a bit longer so I could fully experience the parks and rides.
We arrived and checked into the hotel on Thursday around 6pm. It was really important to me to be able to have at least one full non-race day in the parks. We stayed at the Ramada Maingate again this year. I really like the location of it (within walking distance of the parks – maybe 1/2 mile max?) and can’t complain about free breakfast and wifi (parking is also free if you’re driving)! I was really impressed that the breakfast was also really accommodating to runners – so much so they open breakfast bright and early race days. Score! The room we had this year was alright – last year we were lucky and upgraded to a “remodeled room”; this year we weren’t as lucky – but who is spending a lot of time in the room anyway?! To get the best rate, I’ve found booking early pays off. I booked my hotel almost as soon as I registered for Dumbo (in January) and was able to save $40 a night compared to the most recent rates they were advertising.
After checking in, we went to dinner at House of Blue in Downtown Disney and it was great! I had never been to a House of Blues before, but I liked that they had lots of music and at night they had different bands (both local and well-known) playing upstairs. We were planning on staying around for the concert that night, but decided we didn’t want to stay up super late. We ended up going to Trader Sam’s – which quickly became one of my favorite places ever.
After hanging out at Trader Sam’s we decided to call it a night. Along the way back to the hotel we walked past the finish line of the 10K – so exciting! Dumbo Double Dare was becoming REAL!
