This is part two in my Dumbo Double Dare Recap. Check out part one here!
After seeing the Finish line of the 5K and 10K the night before it really started to hit me that the inaugural Dumbo Double Dare weekend was here! Friday morning started off with a quick breakfast at the hotel then heading over to the expo to pickup my bibs and park tickets. I had preordered park tickets through GET Travel a few weeks before – I really like this option because they’re often times quite a bit cheaper than gate price and you can pick them with your bib. Nice and easy.
However , with this being the inaugural year, the expo didn’t go as quickly as I had planned. We arrived around 10 for opening and expected a line – but this line was 3x what we planned for. To get into the expo it took us about an hour, then once we were in it was easy to get to my bib and tickets. After the line to get into the expo I decided that picking up shirts (this is located inside the actual expo. runDisney has a separate area for bib pickup – so thankful for this!) later on. This plan worked out well as I later on heard from a few friends just how crazy the expo lines were – one stood in line 2 hours to for runDisney merchandise!
Since this was the inaugural year hiccups can be expected. I think in the future runDisney should consider adding a day or two on to the expo/packet pickup. On Friday, the first day of bib pickup and expo, if you were running in the 5K, 10K or Dumbo Double Dare (3 out of 4 races that weekend) you had to go to the expo on Friday – creating super crazy lines.
After deciding to take a break form the expo, we went over to the parks for some rides! We went on Radiator Springs, Tower of Terror and my new favorite: Screamin’ California!
The detail on Radiator Springs will always amaze me!
After quite a few hours at the parks, we went back to the expo for race shirts. Thankfully the lines weren’t as crazy for packet pickup/shirt pickup, but the lines were still crazy through the expo – especially with the runDisney merchandise. I usually love to walk through expos and check everything out, but this expo was just a bit too busy for me.
After the expo, we went to Downtown Disney to grab a pre-race dinner at Naples: pizza!
After dinner we were beyond exhausted and called it an early night – after all, there was a race to run in the morning!
To be continued…
